Connecting promises to action
John, give us an overview of Waterfront Auckland.
Waterfront Auckland is a key contributor to the Mayor’s vision for Auckland being the world’s most liveable city.
We’re a council controlled development agency responsible for 45 hectares of waterfront property including Wynyard quarter, North Wharf, Westhaven marina and part of Queens Wharf. Waterfront Auckland is investing $150M developing key waterfront assets over the next ten years.
Tell us about your ambitions over the next three years?
Waterfront shifts gears in 2013 from infrastructure planning and project delivery to also attract and secure $1 billion of private development investment.
This partnership will facilitate a community of at least 2,000 residents and 25,000 workers in the Waterfront area over the next ten years.
What are your biggest challenges?
Progressing multiple multi-year, multi-phase projects at the same time.
Harmonising the many diverse stakeholder interests in such a significant project.
How were you introduced to Leaderkit?
Our consultant, Ashley Barratt at Wise Counsel introduced us.
Why did Waterfront Auckland purchase the Leaderkit App?
This job is too big, complex and important to be managed without good systems.
I wanted to improve on managing through daily, rotating follow-up with my management team.
Promises made in our planning documents were disconnected from day-to-day responsibility.
How has Wise Counsel and Leaderkit supported Waterfront Auckland?
Provided a system for central management of 75-100 projects and initiatives.
Facilitated dashboards which executive leadership and board use to review progress
Helped us simplify and improve board reporting

Customised Leaderkit for specific Waterfront Auckland needs
How has their work benefited you?
Increased accountability amongst the executive team.
Made key priorities and outcomes more visible.
Stimulated thinking about the way we operate.
